Stanford University's academic ventures are pursued through its schools and their member departments. Stanford's schools include:
- School of Earth Sciences
- School of Education
- School of Engineering
- School of Humanities and Sciences
- School of Medicine
- Graduate School of Business (GSB) [1]
- Stanford Law School
Function of the Schools in the University[]
Unlike universities where prospective undergraduates apply to a specific college, undergraduates at Stanford are admitted to the university and need not choose an initial school. Likewise, while enrolled undergraduates may switch between departments and schools until they have declared and are beyond the point of no return. Graduate programs, however, accept applicants on a school or departmental basis.
Some schools offer courses targetted at both undergraduate and graduate students, while others are primarily for non-undergraduate students. The business, medical, and law schools are the main examples of schools that function primarily at a graduate level.
